AL JAMA-AH MAYORAL PLEDGE TO VOTERS

CITY OF CAPE TOWN METRO ELECTIONS

MAYORAL CANDIDATE: GANIEF HENDRICKS 4 April 2011

FAMILY LIFE

Muslims will turn against the Constitution of the country if government listens to human rights bodies , gender and gay activists, Muslim modernists and anti-religion groups   to change, modify and reshape the shariah  Muslim marriage laws to fully comply  with the Constitution, says Party leader and mayoral candidate  in the City of Cape Town for the AL JAMA-AH political party Ganief Hendricks. This negative attitude towards the shariah will make it difficult for the Party to position  the Muslim community as the most peaceful community in the country. Moreso after government has introduced laws repugnant to the shariah on abortion, same sex marriages, gambling  and shebeens and has been soft on  drug lords and gangsters because of constitutional restraints.

SHARIAH UNDER FIRE

The Party has called on the Legal Resources Centre  leading the campaign against the shariah to withdraw its submission to government on the Muslim Marriages Bill and change its anti-revolutionary response to the legitimate desires of Muslims.

“Such an attitude we have not seen in the worst days of apartheid and it is a blot against  freedom of religion and the values of the  civil rights movement.” In this day and age to hear an outfit with the likes of legal struggle heroes like George Bizos S.C. , Colin Kahanovitz . N. Fakir and others  saying without regard to the sensitivities of Muslims

This may be undesirable to 1.5 million Muslims in South Africa

“ Accepting Islamic Marriage Law would be an absolute abandonment of our most democratic principles.” The Muslim community will have to compromise. Muslim marriage law must be fully in line with the Constitution. On the one hand their  submission  to government says South Africa must not shun the Muslim faith in its entirety  when it comes to their marriage laws and then they say they are  prevented from doing this because of the Constitution. No human rights organizaton anywhere in the world has adopted such a hostile attitude to Islam and this has never happened in the  over 300 history of Islam in South Africa.  Patronizing Islam in other parts of the submission smacks of jingoism, chauvism and hypocrisy. The Legal Resources has shamed itself and the human rights movement.

Is out of place in a South Africa in the first phases of transformation. At the heart core of the Party’s pledge to voters to support it in the forthcoming municipal election is to preserve Muslim family life and the sanctity of marriage in accordance with the shariah.

DRUGS

When family values is entrenched it will become easy to tell  Muslim drug lords and gangsters to comply with the shariah and to tell Muslim drug sellers and users to do the same. It will be easy to tell the families and friends of these shariah offenders to ask  family elders to deal with them and for the Ulema to pronounce on them and if that fails to report them to the police. The Party will voice radical action in Council chambers  against drug users and dealers and introduce the most compassionate measures to assist them comply with the shariah including preferential treatment for jobs and educational opportunities. The Party will get Council to support outfits fighting drugs and gangsterism that meets  Islamic and human rights criteria. A substantial budget will be championed for these outfits.

JOBS

Mayoral candidate Ganief Hendricks received recognition as a pioneer of the internet for introducing the first internet jobs in South Africa and creating next generation jobs. As the mayor of Cape Town he wants  to mobilize the Party’s candidates to get full employment in the City. The City will get its fair share of President Zuma’s five million jobs and his ward councillors will ensure that suburbs around each voting station gets its fair share of jobs.  Councillors will ensure that every employable  person including people with disabilities will get at least 2 days of work per week in terms of state policies. Technicons  and universities will be lobbied to have satellite campuses in all the subcouncils of the City to develop skills and the Department of Labour will be asked to use more funds from unemployment budgets to put people in jobs. Ward candidates will develop a culture of hard work in wards to improve productivity and every worker will be assisted  to join a trade union to help them keep their jobs and be paid decent wages and decent benefits.

‘ I will engage the business people in the Muslim community and other communities to create jobs and make it worth their while with incentives never seen before in the City. This will set the trend for the rest of South Africa. As Mayor I will lobby government to put affirmative action on hold in the City so that all its citizens can work together to get full employment. For starters in 2013 there should be guaranteed jobs for all matriculants who do not enter college or university. They can take a double gap year and work and then go to college and university to improve their skills.

POVERTY

Ward candidates must get a special grant from Council to have feeding schemes and provide a meal everyday for learners  when they come out of school and others who are hungry can join the Que. ALJAMA ward councillors must fund one meal per month from their salary and dish out food to the hungry in their ward. They must have direct access to a City Food Bank.

WATER

AL JAMA-AH will change the water policy of the City Council in line with the shariah. There will be no water cuts and the indigent and poor people will have free water.

HOUSING

(1)    BACKYARDERS: The Party will get the City to build a suburb for backyarders only to address this 18 year struggle
