The IEC Western Cape herewith releases the final provisional results of the Local Government Elections 2011 for the Western Cape. The Electoral Commission of South Africa will confirm the official results and declare the Local Government Elections 2011.

“We delivered the requirements for an election. It had its challenges but solutions were found with the co-operation of the contesting political parties and other stakeholders said Courtney Sampson, Provincial Electoral Officer.

“The LGE 2011 is now of the past. What is left is to manage and confirm the five District Council elections; oversee the roll back of election logistics; continue with the planning for the National and Provincial elections 2014; prepare for local by-elections where required to do so; and other issues including taking leave during the course of next six weeks of the expansion staff that so ably assisted the IEC. This is always a sad part for us as we have become attached to the loyalty, passion and dedication of these people whilst knowing that they are only with the IEC for a contractual period of six months or less said Courtney

The IEC Western Cape thanks all the stakeholders especially the political parties and the safety and security structures for their input, expertise and co-operation it was afforded before, during and after the elections. A special ode of gratitude to the media organisations and the professional individuals that represent these organisations, thank you for your co-operation.

Issued on behalf of Electoral Commission of South Africa
