According to his siblings Professsor Kader Asmal wanted a Muslim burial and one of the last Muslims to visit him confirms his final religious status. This is enough for Muslims to ask that his sins be forgiven insha Allah. It is significant on the day of his death an amendment submitted by ALJAMA  to the bye law on burials  in the City of Cape Town allowed for custom to determine next of kin. His contribution to the freedoms Muslims enjoy today must trump the cloud hanging over his faith. We salute our brother and we appeal to Muslim politicians in the Communist party and other parties to put it in their will how they want to be buried so that we can mourn them fully if they depart this earth especially if they have served humanity well like the Professor did.
