Adv Shameemah Salie, MP conducted an oversight visit in Mahikeng local municipality regarding the construction of tennis courts at Mmabatho Stadium.
Shameemah raised the following concerns:
– Who will actually have access to these facilities, a facility meant for being a stadium for international tennis?
– Whilst on oversight it became clear that there are concerns in the construction of the building.
– Cracks are already visible on the new tennis courts, lights are out, and it is most definitely not meant for those who are handicapped as it is not user-friendly, nor does it appear that the area will be able to cater for those who are handicapped.
– Who will be responsible for this tennis court maintenance after this construction is completed?
– Maintenance appears already to be a concern as 70 million has already been spent on the project and approximately 30 million is needed for the completion of the project.
– Building plans have been requested and concerns regarding which contracts are in place have been raised.
Shameemah is concerned that once the building is complete, who is going to be in charge of this centre.
The municipality must commit that there’s a budget for the maintenance of this facility once DSAC has handed over the facility
This building is considered 60% complete
