VOTE AL JAMA-AH 2024

WHY VOTE?

YOUR VOTE. YOUR VOICE. WHY YOUR VOTE IS IMPORTANT

Voting stands as a fundamental pillar of democracy, empowering citizens to actively shape the future of their beloved country. In South Africa, where the struggle for freedom and equality has defined its history, voting carries a special significance. In this blog, we will delve into the importance of voter registration and active participation in the electoral process, shedding light on how each citizen’s vote can wield a substantial impact in driving positive change and fostering a better South Africa.

Stepping Closer to Democracy Voting extends beyond simply heading to the polls on election day. It commences with the essential step of voter registration. By registering to vote, individuals ensure they have a say in electing leaders who will genuinely represent their interests at various levels of government. This crucial right empowers citizens to actively participate in the democratic process, forming the foundation upon which a robust democracy stands.

Every Vote Makes an Impact
Some individuals might question the significance of their individual vote, fearing that it might get lost amidst the vast sea of ballots. However, history has repeatedly shown that elections can pivot on a small margin of votes. Each vote symbolizes a citizen’s voice and aspirations, and collectively, they possess the power to shape the outcome of an election, influencing policies, and charting the nation’s course.

Voting as Collective Action One of the challenges faced in any democratic society is voter apathy, where citizens disengage from the electoral process for various reasons. Overcoming apathy requires recognizing the transformative power of voting as collective action. When citizens unite to cast their votes, they send a resounding message of their desire for change and a better future. Voting is not just an individual right; it is a collective responsibility that contributes to building a stronger and more inclusive society.

Empowering the Voices of the Future The youth of South Africa epitomize the future leaders and decision-makers. Encouraging their active participation in the voting process is essential for the nation’s long-term development. Young voters bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and boundless energy to drive change. As a society, we must invest in comprehensive voter education programs that engage and inspire the youth to register and exercise their right to vote.

Enlightening Citizens on the Electoral Process To enhance voter participation, civic education plays a pivotal role. Educating citizens about the electoral process, the importance of voting, and the significance of various elections fosters an informed electorate. Knowledge empowers citizens to make well-informed decisions, paving the way for a stronger democracy led by leaders who genuinely represent the interests of their constituents.

Voting is not just a right; it is a potent tool capable of transforming societies and shaping the destiny of a nation. In South Africa, where the struggle for democracy has been hard-fought, each citizen’s vote stands as a testament to the strength and resilience of the nation. By registering to vote and actively participating in elections, every citizen becomes an essential participant in the journey towards progress and positive change.

Let us remember that the power of voting lies not only in our individual choices but also in our collective action. Together, we can build a better South Africa—one that upholds the principles of justice, equality, and inclusivity. So, let us embrace our responsibility as citizens, honor those who fought for our right to vote, and work together to create a brighter future for all South Africans. Your vote matters, your voice matters, and together, we can make a significant difference.

WE KEEP OUR PROMISES!

FULFILLING OUR PROMISES

Prior to the 2019 National Elections, Al Jama-ah committed to safeguard Muslim women’s marital rights and to assist all women who have endured humiliation, injustice, and destitution in our community. With devotion and pressure from Al Jama-ah’s three Private Members Bill’s (PMB), the pledge was fulfilled in 2023.

Our strength in ACTION, not just hot air and blatant rhetoric!

Every democratic SA President has promised Muslim marriages would be recognised. These promises gave Muslim women and children hope that their dignities would be restored. But their promises came to nothing, just hot air and disappointment for Muslims.

Soon after AL JAMA-AH got its first parliamentary seat in the 2019 National Elections, it started fighting to realise its election promises. Among these was to ensure that Muslim marriages would be legally registered.

This goal was achieved in 2023 – a few months before the 2024 National Elections was announced. After 300 years of exclusion, there is now no need for a lawyer and a notary as Home Affairs will register the Nikah as ‘out of community of property’, unless otherwise requested. Surviving spouses can now also get a valid Muslim marriage certificate. Rights they have NEVER enjoyed before!
