Al Jama-ah Party is embarking on a project to give free assistance to all voters in Ward 56 (Kensington, Factreton and Maitland) with applications for a Point-of-Sale (POS) card system which will in overall improve the management of their business.
The party has a track record of assisting Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) or small business owners in various areas on the Cape Flats. Its leader and Member of Parliament Hon Ganief Hendricks who is a Member on the Portfolio Committee of Small Business, says small business owners must be encouraged to look at practical ways on growing their business. “One such way is renewing the Point-of-Sale to that of a card system, offering an alternative and convenient way for customers to pay. This is not only more effective, but safer than having cash on the premises and will increase sales,” says Hendricks.
The POS system costs about R650 and a monthly fee which the party offers free to its members. Al Jama-ah has plans for a ‘Switch Campaign’ which will set in, in February 2023. “We offer the POS system for free with no monthly costs. The party’s membership card is POS enabled and registered members can become business operators even if they are selling from their kitchens. “The scanning embedded on its membership card is a first for any political party to provide such an opportunity and gives access to efficient service delivery should Al Jama-ah win the ward,” says Hendricks.
Al Jama-ah will further assist aspiring entrepreneurs with new micro business loans of which some are a full grant and others are a hybrid grant benefit of which half must be repaid. This lucrative business project will be rolled out by Al Jama-ah’s candidate councillor Mr Mogammat Magodien Samodien. This project forms part of the party’s policy to turn wards on the Cape Flats into “Smart Wards”.
The party notes the residents’ concerns for safety, rising informal settlements, backyard dwellers, poor access to services and the undignified living conditions of people. “There is a general lack of development and poor recreational amenities for the youth. Young girls are vulnerable to risks of prostitution and sexual exploitation. The youth in Ward 56 deserve opportunities that will lead them into a prosperous future,” explains Hendricks.
Samodien invites aspiring entrepreneurs to contact him for assistance in the application for a POS and for new micro loans. He will also bring his expertise as an Educator and offer free advice on Education and do leadership training for the youth.
