Gratitude: We just want to say Thank you to the members of the Walking Bus who have been assisting the community of New Horizons/Pelican Park.

Initiative by Cllr Shameemah Salie

Al jama-ah honoured the amazing individuals who assists with ensuring the safety and care of our vulnerable children at school, our elders and our community at large wherever needed. The walking bus unselfishly assists wherever the need is required.

These are individuals who were contracted to the City until early 2022. They formed part of the previous mayor of Cape Town structure and formed an integral part of our community. Sadly after the 2021 elections with the change of leadership in the City of Cape Town the contracts of the walking bus in the metro was cut abruptly leaving these individuals without a source of income.Yet they continued to help the community despite having no income.

We have watched them as they ensure that children arrive at school safe and back home. We have watched them feed, and cloth and assist the vulnerable in the community.  We have watched them as they walk in the community and assist in the safety of the vulnerable. We have watched them as they take the elders to the clinics, and for Sassa These individuals deserve our gratitude and acknowledgment

The walking bus structures have been through many areas in the Cape and they deserve to be acknowledged and paid for their services to the community.

With the gang warfare, the poverty, and the need in the community we need the Walking bus structures. It baffles us as to why when something works in our community it is removed instead of appreciated and nurtured

To the Walking Bus this is but something small we could do from our side to show our  appreciation and gratitude for your service.

To our communities we encourage you to help these individuals where you can. It is one thing to keep the City clean, but we need to provide care and safety to our vulnerable as well and to appreciate those amongst us doing phenomenal work.

We hope that with enough pressure eyes are open to the valuable service being provided and that these individuals once again are contracted and paid.

Once again to the walking bus shukran, thank you, dankie, enkosi
