FEBRUARY 2021 UPDATE

On the 16th Feb 2021 Aljama-ah party Constituency officers Shams Tabrez Sayed, Qaasim Hendricks, and team members Craig Bowman, Riyaad Brown, and Al Jama-ah charity coordinator, Moulana Raihaan Petersen once again made a pot of food for the homeless.

Alhamdulillah The fire victims and residents of Hadji Ebrahim informal settlements enjoyed a lekker plate of mutton Akni. Big Shukran to residents of Belgravia, Alfalaah foundation, Belgravia Masjidul Ansaar for donations. This initiative could not have happened without their assistance as this was a spur-of-the-moment initiative. Alhamdulillah it was fun and beautiful spending time chatting to kids and residents, says Tabrez Sayed.

Ànd Special thanks to a remarkable lady resident, Charlene Arendse for assisting as well.

The Aljama-ah team decided to start a structure material drive to assist the fire victims. The team went to hardware stores whereby it was concluded that for 45 shacks it will cost R120000, which we trying to raise. We had the assistance of 3 community members/neighbors that assisted by sending out donation letters. We asked construction companies and hardware stores to please assist. Shukran to donor and to Muktaar hiring for assisting with donating a marquee for the fire victims.

Constituency officers Shams Tabrez Sayed, Qaasim Hendricks, and Aljama-ah charity co-ordinator Raiyaan Petersen, as well as team members Riyaad Brown and Craig Bowman and Al Jama-ah candidate ward 48 Imam Salie, made a pot of dhal and rice. A donor donated 150 burger containers of akni and blankets.300 containers were also handed out to Hadjie Ebrahim informal settlement and they were able to distribute it in Hood road informal settlement at Kromboom park and Kromboom bridge. Thanks to the donors that sponsored the blankets and clothes through their kind hearts. The victims from the fire outbreak got to sleep under a roof and were given a warm plate of food and blankets.

Western Cape parliamentary constituency officer Shams Tabrez Sayed continued to hand out some clothes and blankets to fire victims of Hadji Ebraim informal settlement. Donations is pouring in and our victims are so happy to receive it. Shams Tabrez would like to thank the donors and especially Aljama-ah ward 56 candidate Sarfaraaz Mukuddem and his family who came all the way from Kensington to bring the victim’s blankets and clothes. A big thank you to Miss Melissa De Dmidt from Hope Exchange Organisation for blankets and for assisting me with the fire.

Constituency officer Mumienah Gamieldien from Mitchells Plain was involved in a fun day with NPO Angels of Almighty, which specializes in supporting moms with their kids that suffer from Down Syndrome, Autism, and Cerebral Palsy. The other NPO is Shumeez Scott Foundation which focuses more on the youth development for Downe syndrome children. It was a joyful day of making pizzas from a-z with Master Chef Qaasim Hendricks at Shumeez Scott foundation.

The NPO,SAICOM  was afforded R160k by the Dept. of Agriculture as Mumienah Gamieldien assisted them with the application to do so. On the youth project side of things, we taught youth to sew and the result was pencil bags for learners. The project runs every year whereby the department sponsors each child with R50.00 per day for 2 weeks. It is a joint venture with NPO, SAICOM which teaches kids the importance of working in groups, branding of self, and values.This is important to Mumienah Gamieldien. Every year she does a joint venture with Saicom –(South Africa Islamic Council of Madressas ).This year it took place at Tafelsig Masjidul Amiena.

Mumienah Gamieldien also selflessly sacrifices her time to offer Saturday classes to learners Grade 5-11 teaching them time management and planning skills as well as Maths and English.

Mumienah Gamieldien and  Councillor Achmat Hendricks had another joint venture with SAICOM. It is a 2-week program keeping the kids off the street during the holidays. The Juniors playing with magic clay, which was sponsored by Al Jama-ah. The youth enjoyed playing games like monopoly and dominoes. They had lots of fun each day and went on an outing on the last day.


FEBRUARY 2020 UPDATE

Constituency officer,Tabrez Sayed in Belgravia has been involved with a vegetable garden self-help scene in the community of Belgravia.

He has teamed up with Al Jama-ah’s Surrey Estate parliamentary officer, Qaasim Hendricks in handing out some vegetable gardening supplies of compost, vegetable plants and educating the communities how to go about growing vegetables.

Most people will grow the vegetables in their own backyards therefore the two constituency officers will oversee the project.

Qaasim Hendricks spent some time with Nthandazo from the Western Cape agriculture department whereby he managed to secure 1000 seedlings for the Ihata Shelter in Welcome Estate, Cape Town for abused women and children. Embarking on this project with regards to their needs for food security and sustainability and upliftment development. On the list of vegetables was cabbage,onions,potatoes,carrots and tomatoes and green pepper.

Self sustainability and food security project in the making” Qasiem Hendricks, National Constituency officer in Surrey Estate received Covid-19 Packs from the Western Cape agriculture department to assist families in disadvantaged areas with regards to self sustainability and food security.
Distribution of areas include Athlone, Belgravia, Mitchells plain, Rylands,Surrey Estate,Hanover Park in Cape Town.
