Addressing bullying at Alpine Primary School, Mitchells Plain

MPL Galil Brinkhuis was called upon to manage disputes regarding bullying incidents at Alpine Primary school in Mitchells Plain. He was called to have a meeting with the principal at Alpine primary school and he was referred to by an organization called CPC. The type of bullying includes knife stabbing incidents between learners.

As a result of the oversight visit, MPL Galil Brinkhuis managed to get the principal to work side by side with the CPC organisation to try to find a concrete solution and to work together to put long term solutions in place.

Oversight visit to the Beaufort West Municipality

Oversight visit to the Beaufort West Municipality

MPL Moulana Galil Brinkhuis, recently conducted an oversight visit to the Beaufort West Municipality.

His findings are as follows:

He concluded that the municipality is currently in a financial crisis and requires intervention.

During his visit to the waste management landfill, he observed a lack of equipment such as trucks.

70% of Beaufort West water comes from boreholes.
Gamka dam has been running dry since August 2024.
70% of the water supply cannot be accounted for??

Smart water meters will be a game changer for Beaufort west and this is in the pipeline.
It is also important to note that the municipality needs water meters.

Brinkhuis expressed concerns that the municipality may soon be placed under administration due to its ongoing challenges.

Three Palestinian families, who come from Gaza, faced deportation from South Africa; but as a

Result of Al Jama-ah’s timeous intervention, they had their refugee documents extended for

another three months.

It so happened that a Strand community member, who was made aware of the distressed families

that included 13 Gazans individuals including babies and young adults, reached out to MPL

(Member of Provincial Legislature) Maulana Galil Brinkhuis for assistance.  Brinkhuis immediately

addressed the issue accompanying the families to the University of Cape Town; here the families

were assisted with legal advice and thereafter referred to the Home Affairs Department to apply

for an extension of their refugee status.

The families, who previously went to the Somerset Home Affairs Department to apply for an

extension on their refugee status, were bluntly told by an official that they must get their luggage

together as they would be deported.

After Al Jama-ah’s intervention, the relieved family described Brinkhuis as: “a blessing amongst them.”

Brinkhuis said the Home Affairs Department officials in Epping, who were very friendly and extremely

helpful, assisted the families.

They are expected to return within three months for another extension; thereafter, they may apply for

refugee status.
