Al Jama-ah Congratulates President Ganief Hendricks on Appointment as Deputy Minister of Social Development

Al Jama-ah extends its heartfelt congratulations to President Ganief Hendricks on his recent appointment as Deputy Minister of Social Development. This significant achievement marks a pivotal moment not only for our esteemed leader but also for our party and the people of South Africa.

Secretary General Faried Achmat expressed the party’s pride in President Hendricks’ new role, highlighting its alignment with Al Jama-ah’s longstanding commitment to effecting positive change in the lives of South Africans.
“President Hendricks’ appointment as Deputy Minister of Social Development resonates deeply with our party’s ambition to bring about tangible improvements and uphold social justice for all citizens,” said Achmat.

MEET MOGAMAD GANIEF HENDRICKS

Social Activist, Teacher, Academic, Entrepreneur, Corporate Leader, Labour Law Specialist, Industrial Relations Specialist, Trade Unionist, Radio Station Anchor, Politician, Deputy Minister.

Mogamad Ganief Ebrahim Hendricks founded Al Jama-Ah Political Party during 2007. Under Hendricks’ leadership and guidance, the party upheld and continues to uphold the rights and interests of all Muslims in SouthAfrica.

From a young age, Hendricks was involved in communal activities. As he matured and played a leading role in student affairs and other organizations, he advocated for social welfare and community empowerment as a committed activist. Over this period, he demonstrated unwavering dedication to serving the communities across South Africa. Hendricks fervently sustained the idea of endorsing the principles of compassion, equity, and progress. He has indeed been instrumental in shaping Al Jama-ah’s vision of a more inclusive and prosperous South Africa; this approach he underpinned by demanding socialjustice for all citizens.

Prior to Hendricks havingjoined the NationalAssemblyas a Member of Parliament on the 22“ of May 2019, he was a City of Cape Town couneillor. Hendricks tirelessly campaigned for social upliftment in all spheres of public life; he was, inter alia, a member of the ‘Free Mandela’campaignand among those who demanded ‘free education.’

During Hon. Hendricks’ term as MP(April 2019- May 2024), he was active on a variety of fronts extending the party’s footprints.

He ensured that the party set up rural projects such as the one in Mpame Village (Eastern Cape) and the Peanut Butter Factory (Groutville, KZN). Recently, he serviced Eastern Cape’s Cofimvaba ensuring that it was given attention by the Ministry of social Development.

Apart from these areas of interest, Hendricks also addressed the needs of the urban communities in Cape Town where he made sure that the party was a SEDA facilitator for the communities in the small business sector. As a result of these, Hendricks and party members made the necessary inroads and created opportunities for individuals/groups to undertake small business projects to empower themselves.

On the 1st July 2024, Al Jama-ah’s President Hon Hendricks was appointed as Deputy Minister of Social Development. Since Hendricks’ appointment in this post, he has extended the vision by wanting to ensure that positive changes take place in different sectors especially those that fall under his ‘delegation of responsibilities;’ a delegation that was given to him by the Minister of Social Development and they are: substance abuse, HIV/Aids, the Elderly, the Disabled, and the Families and Parenting. It should be mentioned that Hendricks’ aims are to make sure that he – with his team in the Ministry of Social Development – will achieve the goal ofnotjust eradicating food poverty in SouthAfrica but that the countryattains ‘zero hunger.’

The Party

It should be stated that Hon Hendricks is the Amir/President of the only political party that has adopted policies and practices that are in line with Islamic values; one ofthese is embracing all communities and leaving no one behind.

From the time, the party was formed in 2007 it has grown numerically and has members in different parts of the country; its headquarters is based in Cape Town where it started. Despite having struggled with little or no funding, it succeeded to sustain itself and remain on course since then. Hendricks, like his great-grandfather Hajj Ozer Ally who was instrumental in giving the African National Congress its name, never gave up and strove hard to ensure that the party continued to serve.

As a result of hard work, it is represented by twelve councillors (in Western Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and Northwest Province), one Member of the Provincial Legislature in the Western Cape, and two Members of Parliament in the NationalAssembly. During the past five years, two of its councillors served as Executive Mayors in the City of Johannesburg. All of these indicate that the party has emerged as a trusted party in the politicalarena. The ANC sees it is as a confidant and a trusted ally whenever it needed support for its decisions and bills.

The Party and GNU

Since the party has joined the Government of National Unity (GNU), Hendricks presently forms part often person GNU ‘Leaders’Forum.’Let it be publicly stated that Hon Hendricks is the only Muslim member of the Cabinet Executive. Since he is a practicing Muslim who strongly advocates and adheres to Muslim values, the South African government has approached him to introduce its various ministries to potential investors from the Muslim world; among them are investors from Qatar.

Being armed with that, Hendricks has been undertaking these tasks to assist the government to obtain funding for its variety of socio-economic projects and programmes. From among the Ministers who reached out to Hendricks was the Minister ofWater and sanitation, namely Hon Pemmy Caroline Majodina.

The Hon. Minister is seeking funds to build dams and other related structures. She wants financial injection and participation that backed are by the fiscus; one that will give guarantees for the constructing of three dams and water projects. The latter will amount to about one million US dollars; the biggest dam being 80 meters high and supplying a million households and with the cost at about 400 000 US dollars. This particular dam is being fully supported with financial instruments given by the government’s treasury.

Deputy Minister of Social Development Department details 5 year plan

Speaking on VOC Breakfast on Monday, the president of the Al-Jamah Party and the newly appointed deputy minister of social development Ganief Hendricks expressed the need for the government to work with other private organizations.

As a person with experience working on the ground, over the years Hendricks wants to ‘revolutionize the department of Social Development and be the best in government. According to Hendricks, the department does not want to be looking at alleviating poverty but to eradicate it.

“One of the challenges [we face] is that the clock is ticking so [come] 2030 the National Development Plan indicates poverty [needs to eradicated] as we only have six years left and we are keen as ministers to achieve that objective”, he added.

In the next five years, the deputy minister plans to deal with several issues ranging from helping people to be drug-free to non-profit organizations being trouble-free regarding their funding.

Further to this, Hendricks highlighted the need to ensure grant recipients are reduced in number. However, for those who do receive social welfare that it is paid out on time without any inconveniences caused.

SONA 2025 | Al Jama-ah priorities

This year we need a clear and actionable roadmap for South Africa’s future. We call on President Ramaphosa to draw inspiration from the wisdom of Julius Nyerere, the former President of Tanzania. Nyerere, affectionately known as “Mwalimu,”embodied the spirit of true liberation—one that went beyond political freedom and sought economic self-reliance for all people.

South Africa, as a nation still grappling with the legacies of apartheid and colonialism, must strive for the same vision of true liberation.
Political freedom but also economic independence, self-reliance, and social dignity. South Africa, with its abundant resources, is far too rich to remain a nation plagued by poverty, unemployment, and inequality. The time for talk has passed; we need action.

Al Jama-ah Tables Apartheid Complicity Bill

Al Jama-ah has tabled a bill in Parliament to give effect to the International Convention on the suppression and punishment of Apartheid crimes. The convention establishes apartheid as a crime against humanity, placing it in the same category as genocide and war crimes.

“Israel is an apartheid state and those South Africans – including Parliamentarians–who support it, are therefore complicit and must face the full might of the law,” says Hendricks.

To the Class of 2024

AL JAMA-AH reaction to the matric results of year 2024.Honourable Ganief Hendricks, Deputy Minister of Social Development and Leader of the AL JAMA-AH political party shares his reaction on SABC. 30 years of democracy has resulted in a legacy that was left behind – with a 87.3% pass in 2024.

Al Jama-ah shouts out, well done to the 6th parliament. The 7th Parliament is inspired to hold on to this fantastic achievement of the Portfolio Committee and the Select Committee of the six Parliament and others.

300 000 bachelor passes. KZN well done. Western Cape is a bit disappointing for the second year in a row due to the increasing educator-learner ratio. The legacy of apartheid is not going to be very helpful.

Al Jama-ah however, feels that the time has arrived for some bold moves and that is to up the requirements for a pass so South Africa can compete in the new world of artificial intelligence, robotics and higher standards of digital technology.

Al Jama-ah congratulates the ground forces of educators and officials, and a big shout out to the class of 2024. Class of 2025 make us proud.

We also want to encourage matriculants to assist with social grants. So we would like that to be an inspiration for those who are helping with social grants and with disabilities to work very extra hard this year and to make an early application at universities and colleges.
