In times of hardship, our shared humanity must always come before borders, politics, or nationality.
Humanitarian assistance was provided to stranded Zimbabwean nationals outside the Consulate of Zimbabwe in Cape Town. The displaced families, consisting mainly of women and children, had been displaced from their accommodation amid the current unrest and were in urgent need of support and this may be an ongoing need.
Councillor Adv Shameemah Salie assisted by coordinating with community partners and sponsoring meals and essential sanitary items to help meet the families’ immediate needs.
In addition, Adv. Cllr Salie is liaising with the relevant government departments and stakeholders to facilitate assistance for the affected families, including addressing their immediate humanitarian needs and exploring options for the safe and dignified repatriation of those who wish to return to Zimbabwe.
We extend our sincere appreciation to every organisation, department, community group, volunteer, and individual who stepped forward to assist. Your compassion and generosity demonstrate the very best of our shared humanity.
As Muslims, we are guided by the teachings of Islam to care for those in need. Allah ﷻ says:
“And they give food, despite loving it, to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, saying: ‘We feed you only for the sake of Allah. We seek from you neither reward nor thanks.’” (Qur’an 76:8–9)
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “The most beloved people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to people.” (Reported by al-Ṭabarānī)
May Allah (SWT) reward all those who have assisted, ease the hardship of the affected families, and grant them safety, dignity, and a swift resolution to their circumstances.
Humanity knows no borders. Compassion is our shared responsibility.
