Al Jama-ah rebuffs DA’s suggestions for changes to South Africa’s foreign policy:
Cape Town, South Africa – Al Jama-ah’s President Hon Ganief Hendricks who is Deputy Minister of Social Development and a leader of the GNU confirms that GNU parties will meet to discuss South Africa’s foreign policy.
However, says Hendricks, there will be strong resistance to the DA’s suggestions to “smooth out foreign policy differences”. “We will push for the status quo to remain and that the foreign policy be based on the foundational principles of South Africa’s liberation movements and that of the founding fathers of the African Union,” says Hendricks.
He will further push for the formation of a United States of Africa to ensure there is an African position on international relations. “We will not harm the legacy of Mandela’s position on Palestine; South Africa must maintain the freedom to support countries in their liberation struggles against illegal occupation. We have enough support in the GNU to support Al Jama-ah’s position that the country’s foreign policy should not be filtered to the whims of the DA,” says Hendricks.
He further adds that should the DA want changes to the foreign policy, they must submit private bills and motions.
