AL JAMA-AH’s President opens two-day Retreat on Intergenerational Dialogue between Mother And Daughter/Father and Son
As part of strengthening intergenerational dialogues on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights, the Al Jama-ah President, Hon Ganief Hendricks in his capacity as Deputy Minister of Social Development, will do the opening of the two-day Mother and Daughter/Father and Son engagement from 25 and 26 March 2026, at Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre in Boksburg, Johannesburg.’
Family and Parenting is one of five delegation of functions or responsibilities assigned to Hendricks by the Minister of Social Development. The objectives of ‘Family and Parenting’ are to implement programmes to strengthen families, the reviewing and implementation of Families Policy and to enhance positive parenting programmes.
Based on above, the two-day dialogue seeks to strengthen intergenerational relations and improve communication between parents and children on matters of sexual and reproductive health rights, mental health, and social challenges affecting young adults.
South Africa has a high rate of teenage pregnancy due to young children’s exposure to early age sexual intimacy, Gender-Based Violence and Femicide and the lack of communication on sexual matters between parents and young adults.
The two-day dialogue is a continuation of the national implementation of the Mother and Daughter/Father and Son Programme, as similar programmes have been launched in other provinces such as the Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, and the Western Cape.
