On 18 April 2026, MMC for Community Development Thapelo Amad, together with fellow Mayoral Committee Councillors and City officials from the City of Johannesburg, engaged directly with residents of Region A on matters relating to the Integrated Development Plan (IDP), Medium-Term Budget, and proposed rates and tariffs.

The session drew a strong turnout of approximately 500 attendees, reflecting the importance of these engagements in ensuring that communities remain informed and actively involved in shaping local development priorities.

During the engagement, MMC Amad addressed a range of questions, providing clarity on issues relating specifically to the Department of Community Development. Residents were given the opportunity to raise concerns, seek explanations, and better understand how municipal programmes and budget allocations impact their communities.

To enhance service delivery and accessibility, various municipal departments were present with on-site kiosks, allowing residents to engage directly with officials through walk-in consultations. This provided a practical platform for resolving queries and connecting communities with the relevant departments in real time.

The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public participation, ensuring that community voices are heard and considered in planning and budgeting processes that affect everyday life.
