MMC for Community Development, Thapelo Amad, actively engaged with residents during a high-impact community session focused on the Integrated Development Plan (IDP), Medium-Term Budget, and proposed rates and tariffs.
With an impressive turnout of over 500 community members (on head count), the session created a vital platform for residents to raise concerns, seek clarity, and better understand how municipal planning and budgeting directly affect their daily lives.
Cllr Amad responded to a range of questions, providing clear guidance on matters relating specifically to the Department of Community Development. His engagement ensured that residents left with a better understanding of ongoing programmes, service delivery priorities, and how resources are being allocated to support communities.
To further enhance accessibility and service delivery, various municipal departments were present on-site, with service kiosks available for walk-in assistance. This allowed residents to engage directly with officials, resolve queries in real time, and access critical services without delay.
The initiative reflects a continued commitment by the City of Johannesburg to bring government closer to the people — ensuring transparency, accountability, and meaningful public participation in shaping local development priorities.
Through engagements like these, communities are not only informed, but empowered to play an active role in the decision-making processes that shape their environment.
