On 9 November, in Macassar — the birthplace of Islam in South Africa — Al Jama-ah concluded its Heritage Month programme with a remarkable celebration of faith, culture, and learning.
The highlight of the event was a Qur’anic recital by world-renowned Qari, Dr Ahmed Naina, who was invited by Al Jama-ah to grace the party’s Awards Ceremony for Qur’anic Reciters, held at Masjidus Saabiereen, 47 Link Avenue, Macassar.
During the ceremony, 100 young Huffāz (students who have memorised the entire Qur’an) were honoured for their dedication and achievement.
Deputy Minister of Social Development and Al Jama-ah Party Leader, Honourable Ganief Hendricks, personally handed over the certificates and gifts to each of the young reciters.
The event, themed “The Qur’an, Our Heritage”, marked a proud and spiritually uplifting moment for the community — celebrating not only the reciters’ devotion but also the deep-rooted Islamic heritage of Macassar and South Africa.
