On 16 June, Hon. Ganief Hendricks attended the Mafunze Traditional Horse Race held at Manyakeni Station in Pietermaritzburg — joining community members in celebrating culture, heritage, and the enduring traditions that continue to bring people together across generations.

Traditional horse racing remains an important community gathering in many parts of KwaZulu-Natal, creating spaces where culture, identity, and local pride are expressed and preserved. Events such as these not only celebrate heritage but also strengthen social connection and intergenerational participation.

Held during Youth Month commemorations, the occasion served as a reminder of the importance of preserving cultural traditions while creating spaces for communities and young people to remain connected to their history, identity, and shared future.
