Abahlali Base Mzanzi, in partnership with Al Jama-ah, hosted a “Lead Like Nelson Mandela” community dialogue in Soweto, bringing together residents, community leaders, and stakeholders to discuss unity, land justice, and grassroots leadership.
Held in the spirit of Nelson Mandela’s enduring legacy, the gathering created a platform for meaningful engagement on the challenges facing communities and the importance of working together to advance equality, justice, and inclusive development.
The dialogue featured addresses by Isaac “Macarveli” Lentsoane, President of Abahlali Base Mzanzi, and Hon. Ganief Hendricks, Deputy Minister of Social Development and President of Al Jama-ah. Discussions focused on strengthening community leadership, encouraging active civic participation, and exploring practical approaches to land justice and social cohesion.
By bringing together community voices and leadership, the event reinforced a shared commitment to constructive dialogue and the values of service, dignity, and unity that continue to inspire South Africa’s democratic journey.
