Al-Jama-ah Champions Women’s Day Event August 2025 – ‘A Community Call to Empowerment: Building Resilient Economies for All’
Cape Town – In honour of Women’s Day August 2025, the Al-Jama-ah political party, known for its unwavering commitment to faith-based governance and community upliftment will host a Women’s Day program in Bonteheuwel on Sunday, 10 August. The event will be graced by the presence of Deputy Minister of Social Development Hon Ganief Hendricks, founder of Al-Jama-ah and a pioneering voice for ethical leadership in South Africa.
Under his guidance, Al-Jama-ah continues to champion the rights and dignity of women, youth, and families, rooted in faith-based values and social justice. The Women’s Day program under the national theme: “ Building Resilient Economies for All” reflects this mission, offering a space for reflection, celebration, and collective action.
“This is not just a commemoration it’s a reaffirmation of our belief that women are the backbone of our communities and the heart of our future. Al-Jama-ah stands firm in its support for women’s leadership, their important role in the home and in public life,” says Hendricks.
Bonteheuwel was one the first and one of several dusty townships to which the oppressed masses who lived in the city, were forcibly removed to under apartheid’s draconian law, the Group Areas Act. About 100 women stalwarts who kept Bonteheuwel together during the turbulent apartheid years and beyond, will receive a Humanitarian and Good Cause award.
“Many of our struggle heroes and heroines hail from Bonteheuwel like Christopher Truter, Nazeem Lowe, Anwar Dramat, Ashley Kriel, Maulana Faried Essack, Colleen Williams and others. Their mothers and older sisters played great supportive roles. Today, many women continue that legacy by feeding the needy, supporting anti-crime and anti-drugs initiatives,” explains Hendricks.
The Women’s Day event is coordinated by Maulana Yassien Fortune, a dedicated and well known community worker in Bonteheuwel, Kalksteenfontein, and surrounding areas, Yassien will prioritise service delivery and promote inclusive empowerment.
In line with these goals, this Women’s Day event brings together different organizations from faith based groups, youth movements, women’s advocacy networks and educational institutions. Their presence reflects our belief that “real change happens when we work together,” across backgrounds and affiliations but guided by shared values and a common purpose.
