Deputy Minister of Social Development Honourable Ganief Hendricks, conducted an oversight visit at the SASSA offices at 5am. He wanted to observe the long queues the elderly have to endure and try to find solutions.

Abuse of older persons and administrative action that harms them and contributes to the abuse will no longer be tolerated by the Deputy Minister of Social Development Hon Ganief Hendricks who is also a member of the Leader’s Forum of the Government of National Unity (GNU) representing AL JAMA-AH.

The DM has warned SASSA that their latest administrative action canceling social pension grants of 10 000 older persons in the City of Cape Town Metro was unlawful and he is contemplating processing criminal charges against those responsible. Including those in SARS who triggered the unlawful administrative action. Hendricks is engaging the top bosses of SASSA and will later engage other departments in government including the Presidency before actually laying the charges.

SASSA does not think through its administrative actions as can be seen from the debacle that occurred during my first year in office as DM of Social Development. While I am putting SASSA on terms having the delegation in the Department of Social Development for the well being of older persons.
