Johannesburg deserves leadership that listens, acts and delivers.

JOHANNESBURG CANNOT WAIT

THE CITY’S CHALLENGES, ARE PEOPLE’S EVERYDAY REALITIES.

Johannesburg is a city of enormous potential — but that potential is being held back by challenges that residents experience every day.

Service delivery failures. Infrastructure under pressure. Crime. Unemployment. Poverty. Housing challenges. Businesses struggling to survive. Young people searching for opportunities. Communities losing confidence in local government.

These are not simply items on a municipal agenda.
They affect whether a family has reliable water and electricity. Whether a small business can stay open.  Whether a young person sees a future. Whether residents feel safe in their own neighbourhoods.

For Ashley Mama, rebuilding Johannesburg requires more than managing decline.

It requires a deliberate shift towards practical, accountable and developmental local government — one that understands the relationship between functioning infrastructure, economic opportunity, community safety and quality of life.

That means government must listen to residents, work with communities and business, use public resources responsibly and be held accountable for results.

Johannesburg has the People. It has the businesses. It has the talent. It has the resources. It has the potential.

What it needs is leadership capable of bringing those strengths together — and turning potential into progress.

Ashley Mama believes Johannesburg can do better. And he is putting himself forward to help make it happen.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF POLITICAL EXPERIENCE

WHO IS ASHLEY MAMA?

ENTREPRENEUR | CONFLICT RESOLUTION SPECIALIST | COMMUNITY ORGANISER | ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADVOCATE | BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Ashley Mama has not built his career by sitting behind a political desk.
His experience has been shaped by business, community engagement, economic development, negotiation and working directly with people facing real challenges.

Born and raised in Soweto, Ashley’s understanding of leadership was shaped by a community and a generation that understood that change does not happen by waiting for someone else to make it happen.

His career has taken him into business development, entrepreneurship, conflict resolution, community organising and political leadership — bringing together people with different interests and finding practical ways forward.

That experience matters in Johannesburg. Because the city does not only need politicians who can talk about its problems.

It needs leaders who understand how to bring people together, identify opportunities and turn ideas into action.

Ashley Mama is now bringing that experience to the campaign for Executive Mayor of Johannesburg.

FROM SOWETO TO JOHANNESBURG

Vote 2026_Ashley_JHB Mayor

Born and raised in Soweto, he grew up in a community shaped by the struggles, resilience and aspirations that have defined Johannesburg’s history.

His political journey began at grassroots level, where he became involved in youth and community structures before taking on increasingly senior responsibilities within political and civic organisations.

That journey gave him an understanding of politics beyond election campaigns — how communities organise, how people negotiate for what they need, and how leadership can either create solutions or stand in their way.

His work in Ward 97 is one example of that community-rooted approach. As a strategist and organiser, he helped mobilise residents and build structures that gave communities a stronger voice in local government.

For Ashley, Joburg is not simply a city to govern. It is a city he knows, a city he understands — and a city he believes can do better.

The challenge now is turning that experience into city-wide leadership.

NO MORE EMPTY PROMISES

Ashley Mama is a man of Action. He doesn’t just talk about Economic Opportunities. He creates them!!

For Ashley Mama, economic empowerment is not simply a campaign promise. It has been part of his professional and community work for years.

Through his involvement in enterprise development and business support, he has worked with small and emerging businesses, helping entrepreneurs access opportunities, markets and support.

His work has included facilitating opportunities benefiting more than 40 SMMEs and contributing to over 100 employment opportunities — practical examples of what can happen when economic development moves beyond policy and into action.

He has also worked across business, infrastructure, technology and energy-related initiatives, giving him an understanding of the challenges faced by both entrepreneurs and larger economic stakeholders.

WHY THIS MATTERS FOR JOHANNESBURG

Johannesburg cannot build a stronger economy without creating space for small businesses, entrepreneurs, investors and job seekers to participate. The City’s role must be more than administration.

It must be about creating an environment where businesses can start, grow and employ; where investment is encouraged; and where residents can access real pathways into the economy.

Ashley Mama brings experience from both sides of that equation — understanding the needs of communities and the realities of business.

For Johannesburg, that means moving from talking about opportunity to creating it.

A CITY THAT WORKS FOR THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN IT

Johannesburg does not need more promises. It needs a city that works.

Residents know the reality: unreliable services, failing infrastructure, unsafe communities, unemployment, struggling businesses and young people who are desperate for opportunity. Ashley Mama believes the response cannot be another set of disconnected promises.

It requires leadership that can bring people, government, business and communities around the same table —
and then make things happen.

His priorities for Johannesburg are grounded in the issues that affect residents every day:

SERVICE DELIVERY – A municipality that responds to residents and delivers the basics reliably.

ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY – Supporting SMMEs, attracting investment, encouraging enterprise and creating pathways to jobs.

INFRASTRUCTURE – Addressing the City’s infrastructure challenges and protecting the systems on which communities and businesses depend.

SAFETY – Building stronger partnerships between City, law enforcement and communities to address crime & create safer neighbourhoods.

ACCOUNTABILITY – Responsible management of public resources, effective oversight & consequences for those entrusted who failed to deliver.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION – Residents should not only be consulted when elections arrive.

They should have a meaningful voice in the decisions that shape their neighbourhoods and their city.

THE OBJECTIVE IS SIMPLE:
A Johannesburg that delivers.
A Johannesburg that creates opportunity.
A Johannesburg that listens. A Johannesburg that works.
That is the city Ashley Mama is asking Johannesburg to build with him

WARD 97: FROM CRISIS TO PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS

Leadership is tested when communities are under pressure.

Ashley Mama’s community work has repeatedly placed him alongside residents dealing with difficult and immediate challenges — from displacement and housing insecurity to food shortages, unemployment and access to opportunity.

One example came in Ward 97, when approximately 200 residents faced displacement. Working with community structures and stakeholders, Ashley helped mobilise immediate support, including food and blankets, while engaging with the City around longer-term solutions.

Those engagements contributed to the establishment of Ikemeleng Village in Honeydew, with further families later assisted with relocation to Fleurhof.

His community work has also included feeding initiatives, winter relief, bursary support, engagement with informal settlements and advocacy around workers’ rights and community development.

These are not abstract policy discussions.
They are the everyday realities that determine whether people feel seen, supported and able to move forward.

For Ashley, community leadership means getting involved, bringing people together and looking for practical solutions — particularly when the people affected have the least power to solve the problem on their own. Because Leadership isn’t just about showing up – it is about showing up, listening, bringing the right people to the table — and staying until something changes.
