Advocate Shameemah Salie,MP from the Al Jama-ah political party attended the fundraising event in Bloubergstrand on Freedom Day.
A dozen swimmers braved the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean on Freedom Day to raise much needed money for humanitarian assistance in Gaza, as well as awareness for the plight of the Palestinians.
Symbolically, the event, which took the form of a relay, saw the swimmers cross the 7.4km stretch from Robben Island to Bloubergstrand, on Sunday, April 27.
Our youngest swimmer, Saarah Moosajee, 11 years old, has raised over R 50000 towards this initiative.
Advocate Shameemah Salie had the following to say: We are resilient in our support for Palestine. We are very proud of all the swimmers who undertook the swim from Big Bay Bloubergstrand to Robben island and back. The youngest swimmer being 11 years old, young Sarah you have all made us proud.
Funds of over R 600 000 has been raised through this initiative for Gift of Givers to assist Palestinians impacted by the genocide being committed by the unlawful occupiers, the apartheid state called Israel.
To all who supported the swimmers, and the event may your efforts be rewarded abundantly Ameen!
To those of Big Bay who at last minute switched off their humanity and withdrew their support to the event, always remember that everything we have comes from God and we thank God that angels were sent to ensure the event was a success despite those who attempted to sabotage.
