Imraan Moosa is a son of Lenasia. A well-known resident of Lenasia for the past 58 years. He attended Trinity High. He was a chairman of the SRC during the turbulent years of the late 70’s.

He has also been a forerunner in the Business Development of the ‘Top Shops ‘area. Being part of the ‘Real Estate Development’ he understands the need for housing and the impact illegal land invasions are having on the development of Lenasia.

He has served the community in various capacities including and facilitating the upliftment of impoverished communities of Tembelishle. And, he has also been involved in the local orphanages, seeing to their well being. Teaching adults and children in various capacities.

Being one of the founder members of Khidmatul Awaam which was established to ease the plight of pilgrims and to make the journey a pleasant and easy one, he escorted the groups personally to see to their spiritual and practical needs. He is also a volunteer at the Rose Park Run.

But, Imraan’s duties do not stop at organizing and assisting in community initiatives, he also actively encourages and motivates people to excel and strive for excellence. Imraan is known to give his all to any initiative undertaken, fearless in the face of adversity, and not one to easily back down when challenging situations arise.

Characteristics
Councillor Imraan Moosa is a humble, gentle kind-hearted human being affectionately known as “Beloved Councillor” who is focused on the development of the community in Lenasia. This “Beloved Councillor” is recognised as the moral voice for the different communities residing in Lenasia.

Early years

Councillor Imraan is a true son of Lenasia. He attended primary school Park Primary and matriculated at Trinity High School. During his high school days, he became a community activist and served as chairperson of the school’s Student Representative Council (SRC).

Sport

Many of his friends and associates remember him as an ardent soccer player with swift goalkeeping skills.
He is also an active volunteer with the Park Run at Rose Park.

Faith
Imraan is a conscientious Muslim and has memorised the Holy Qur’an earning him the title of Hafez.
He also served as a religious educator at various Islamic Institutions in Lenasia and surrounding areas such as at Nurul Islam and the Central Islamic Trust (CIT).

Community activities
As a young man growing up in Lenasia who enjoyed participating in sports, he was and continues to be involved in projects assisting orphans and the homeless.

Other activities
Imraan, in conjunction with others who were concerned about the high costs of pilgrimages to Makkah, worked hard to offer more affordable packages to South African pilgrims. He is also widely travelled.

Business
Besides his flair for business he has the ability to make good judgements and quick decisions in very challenging situations. This has led him to understand the desperate need for housing and led him to implement different strategies that would provide housing to the community. This also served to decrease the rapid growth of illegal settlements.

Imraan is truly a remarkable person, he is a visible councillor and takes it upon himself to try and resolve issues as soon as it arises.
As he often says” it’s no use complaining, it’s time to be solution-driven”.
He is also adhering to AL JAMA-AH’s slogan, “We Are Here To Serve…And Not Be Served”

As a councillor he has made huge strides in a short space of time. One of the prominent signboards featuring when one enters Lenasia is, “Welcome to Lenasia” on the K43.

Some of the other achievements to date are as follows
–  Cleaning and enhancing the aesthetics look to the entrance of Lenasia
–  Tidying and grass cutting, etc
–  Negotiations to resolve service delivery issues that have been going on for years
–  Submitted a comprehensive and viable Integrated Development Plan (IDP) to Council of the challenges facing people of Lenasia.
–  A commitment to awareness with the constant flow of communication and feedback to the public via different social media platforms.
–  An envisaged “Central Business District (CBD) upgrade” is currently underway.
–  A positive reflection and Old Age home “satisfaction”.
–  A vibrant and “New Youth League” established with 5000 students continues to grow.
–  A new slogan was created with a positive vibe to enhance and ensure positivity all round.
