*Al Jama-ah’s Hendricks Helps Barefoot Track Star Chase National Dream*

The Deputy Minister of Social Development and leader of the Al Jama-ah Party, Hon. Ganief Hendricks, has once again demonstrated his commitment to uplifting young talent by helping a promising young athlete pursue his sporting dreams.

Despite his demanding schedule, Hendricks found the time to make a meaningful difference in the life of 15-year-old athlete Matteo Smith, a talented 200m and 400m specialist who has been turning heads with his performances on the track.

However, Hendricks was stunned to learn that Smith had been breaking records and winning races while competing barefoot.

“I was quite taken aback when I heard that this young man was winning races without the proper running shoes,” said Hendricks.

“I thought, why not assist him? After all, he is representing Western Province and has already achieved success. It is only fitting that we reward and support him so that he can achieve even greater things.”

Thanks to Hendricks’ intervention, Smith now has the footwear needed to compete at the highest level as he continues his athletics journey.

Smith, a gr10 learner is currently enrolled at the Western Cape Sports School in his Sarepta neighbourhood where he is honing his talent even further learner athlete will represent the Western Province Section 1 team at the Greenpoint track this weekend, where he hopes to secure selection for the South African team.

“Now that I have proper running shoes, I believe I can go even faster,” said Smith. “I want to thank Mr Hendricks and Al Jama-ah for making this possible and for believing in me.”

With his talent, determination and newfound support, Smith will be hoping that his next race marks another step towards national colours and an even brighter future on the track.
