PRESS RELEASE
AL JAMA-AH welcomes its new Member of Parliament sworn in earlier this week:
Al Jama-ah Party welcomes its new Member of Parliament, Hafiz Imraan Ismail Moosa who was sworn in by the Speaker of National Assembly Ms Thoko Didiza at parliament earlier this week.
Moosa’s position as MP was stood in by Adv. Shameemah Salie until end of May 2025. He was required to resign as a Ward Councillor from the City of Johannesburg following the 2024 national elections, but the Party’s President Hon. Ganief Hendricks requested that he stay on for another year as councillor.
Adv. Salie was then appointed as the MP in the National Assembly during Moosa’s absence. “The party needed Cllr Moosa’s vote to keep the ANC in power in the City of Johannesburg. This sacrifice by Moosa was in vain as the Regional Committee of the ANC went back on its word; as a result of these political developments, Al Jama-ah lost a mayorship and two mayoral committee positions,” explains Hendricks.
Moosa has a proven track record of leadership and ground-level impact, including four consecutive electoral victories in Lenasia. He will not only lead the party in Parliament but further increase its growth and trying to gain Ward-level wins nationwide.
“We are confident that under his leadership in Parliament, Al Jama-ah will continue to advance its values of justice, service delivery, and ethical governance while expanding its influence across the country,” says Hendricks.
The party extends its sincere gratitude to Adv. Shameemah Salie for ‘having held the fort’ and for the sterling work she made during her 12 months as MP.
