Why Al Jama-ah was established

The Al Jama-ah Political Party was established in 2007 by its Party Leader, Ganief Hendricks , that instead of finger pointing, Muslims could play a sincere and positive role, contributing to the transformation of post Apartheid South Africa, for the benefit of all South Africans.

These pages are dedicated to the work of Aljama-ah. It’s beliefs, it’s people, it’s role in the community – and the difference we make. We encourage everyone of you to join us, because we believe together we can make a difference. Find out how:

Al Jama-ah’s Atteridgeville Master Class for Women

HAVE YOUR SAY: Let’s protect Muslim Women’s right together!

In Tshwane’s Atteridgeville about 200 Muslim women gathered to attend a Master Class on Muslim Personal Law (MPL) that was organized by Al Jama-ah Party. At that meeting, Hon Ganief Hendricks, who was accompanied by senior party representatives, namely the Secretary General, Mr. Farid Achmat, and MPL Western Cape representative, Maulana Khalil Brinkhuis; both engaged with those who attended.

Apart from Hon. Hendricks having made his inputs on the drafted Bills, he was supported by the party’s Senior Researcher, Prof. Muhammed Haron; the latter presented a Master Class on the Bills as part of the MPL project.

Besides having benefited from the presentations, the women showed their interest to join the party with the purpose of taking up issues that affect them and others. In addition, they demonstrated their willingness to publicise the party’s sterling work. Towards the close of the day-long event, the party solicited their views on related matters such as domestic violence; and these, they eagerly shared knowing that the party would take their matters to Parliament. These ladies were spoiled with lunch as well as branded Aljama-ah neck scarves and goodie bags.

Three bills were discussed:
Interim Registration of Muslim Marriages
Making Amendments to the Maintenace(Nafaka)Act
Making Amendments to laws for Muslim Personal Law

Walkabout in Bokmakierie to address the concerns of residents

On Saturday the 9th of April Al Jama-ah did a walkabout in Bokmakierie to address the concerns raised by the residents of the relevant area.

Leading the visit was President of Al Jama-ah and Member of Parliament Honourable Ganief Hendricks, National spokesperson and Cllr Shameemah Salie, MPL Galil Brinkhuis, Cllr Faried Achmat, Cllr Achmat Hendricks, and they were later joined by MPL Khalid Sayed from the ANC.

Indeed the issues in BokmakIerie are similar to many other areas however Bokmakierie is too often forgotten.

Putting the area on the map Al Jama-ah has drawn attention to the area, the people, and their needs and indeed we hope that this will create an awareness and willingness for those in charge to assist in upgrading the area and the call of the residents of Bokmakierie.
