First Muslim mortuary at the Mowbray

First Muslim mortuary at the Mowbray

Cllr. Adv Shameemah Salie who serves on the Community and health portfolio in COCT and is a board member at Mowbray Cemetery was present at the laying of foundation of the first Muslim mortuary at the Mowbray

This historical moment is invaluable to our Muslim community as the mortuary would provide a much needed facility to ensure where required the storage of and preparation of muslim bodies for burial whilst maintaining the dignity of and protection of the deceased in terms of Islamic burial rituals.

Adv Salie provided the vote of thanks acknowledging stakeholders in the project and encourages the community to support this project which caters for a need identified years ago and in time ordained by our Creator becoming a realisation Alghamdullilaah

Still picketing for Palestine

Still picketing for Palestine

Message from Shameemah Salie:

We still picket weekly for Palestine.

We cannot become complicit nor stop pressure against all corrupt governments, leaders and their supporters

We all by now know the evil entity that has been committing the worse of atrocities around the globe. Massacre, ethnic cleansing, genocide a holocaust for power, money, power, immorality, corruption…

Ceasefire… what ceasefire…
The ceasefire has always been broken by Israel. How many Palestinians have already been massacred during the ceasefire. How many attempts has already been made by the unlawful occupiers israel to stop the ceasefire by breaking agreements

We have once again witnessed the huge difference between the condition of released Israel hostages vs Palestinians hostages. Even the conditions of bodies returned displays the level of evil of the unlawful occupiers in comparison to Palestinians

The brutal torture endured by Palestinians captives shows the level of evil that lies in the hearts of the IOF and their leaders and supporters.

Bodies displaying evidence of severe torture and removal of organs ….
We need to continue holding to account those committing these evil actions, Palestininans are still under occupation and until
they are free we are not free

We need to continue to demand Freedom of Palestinians, continue boycott divestment and sanctions, increase pickets, and marches and ensure that the unlawful occupiers called israel there leaders and supporters be held to account holistically for there brutal evil barbaric actions.

There can be no peace without justice.

For if these entities are not held to account and if we do not continue to resist they will regroup and continue there ultimate desire control of not just Palestine but the world… which we have all seen how far their tentacles has spread”

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence

Cllr Adv. Shameemah Dollie Salie and Activist Uzair Mohammed alongside Russian and Angolan delegates, and former military commanders, gathered to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence. This moment marked not only a celebration of Angola’s sovereignty, but also a critical space for deep political dialogue, reflection, and strategic discussion.

Our engagement centred on the urgent need for African unification in the face of ongoing Western imperialism. As history has shown, Africa has endured centuries of exploitation at the hands of Western powersexploitation that continues today through economic manipulation, political interference, and the extraction of natural resources by countries such as the United States. True African liberation requires that we build a future where our continent is no longer dependent on Western trade, but stands collectively, economically and politically self- sufficient.

Angola’s own history is a testament to the strength of African resistance. After centuries of Portuguese colonial rule, Angola fought one of the longest liberation struggles on the continent. Following independence in 1975, Angolan forcessupported by progressive international alliesstood firm against direct military aggression from the United States and apartheid South Africa, both of which attempted to destabilise the young nation and suppress its sovereignty for their own geopolitical gain. Yet Angola prevailed. Their victory remains one of the most significant blows against imperialism and apartheid in African history.

Today, as we honoured this legacy, we also recommitted ourselves to the ongoing struggle for a unified, self- determined Africa. The conversations held were essential, the questions critical, and the vision clear: an Africa free from Western domination, united in purpose, and empowered to control its own future.

Commemoration of Cissy Gool at the Mowbray Cemetery

Commemoration of Cissy Gool at the Mowbray Cemetery

Adv Shameemah Dollie Salie was in attendance at the commemoration of Zainunnisa nee Abdurahman Gool fondly known as “Cissie Gool” held at Mowbray Cemetery by the Cissie Gool Foundation.

Adv Salie: “Today it was an honour to join the Cissie Gool Foundation in commemorating the life of a phenomenal women in our history Zainunnisa “Cissie” Gool.

Shukran to all members of the Cissie Gool Foundation for their efforts in keeping the memory of Cissie Gool and Dr Abdurahman alive and we wish you beneficial success in your endeavours moving forward

There are many articles and information on Cissie Gool and as I mentioned today it is important for our youth to be educated about their ancestors and the rich history we have opposed to the history fed to us in our current education system

Many did not know today the link of Dollie family and Dr Abdurahman and Cissie Gool. Nor were they aware of my even being family and the rich political history that stems from another branch of Cissie Gool family which shapes the women she was.

As I attentively listened I realised that the treasure trove has but been opened.

How many of us are linked and our roots if explored would lead to that which may create the much needed direction many needs as to many have forgotten their heritage their “Asal” a term meaning origin and belonging that unites us.

Our history of many heroes and heroines of which lies in Mowbray cemetery should be spoken about and taught in our schools that we may derive a sense of pride and direction.

History has the ability to provide perspective on the present and future by teaching us about past mistakes and successes, fostering critical thinking, and giving us a sense of identity and cultural understanding.

We know that many giants lies in Mowbray cemetery it is a treasure trove of information and today the Cissie Gool Foundation did us proud with their commemoration of Cissie Gool and we make duah for their beneficial success in inspiring many a person to with pride look to history and learn from our heros and heroines.
