“What an absolutely deserved Special award today for two of Cape Town’s most beloved cultural figures, David Kramer and the late Taliep Petersen (May Allah bestow Jannah on our brother Ameen and place sabr and contentment in heart of family Ameen)
Freedom of the City the highest civic honour most definitely deserving of a standing ovation
Jawaahier Petersen, your tribute to your father had many wiping away tears, especially those of us who knew Taliep and family personally. It was hard, many memories came flooding back. I can only imagine what a bitter sweet moment this was for his loved ones. But Boeta Taliep you and David Kramer have and continue to bring so much joy to many a life through your music.
Your legacy lives on.. I wish you could see how many homes and hearts you touched
David Kramer and Taliep Pietersen through songs and plays gave voice to communities the hardships, the struggles, the joy, the sense of belonging, the resilience of our people that will forever ensure that we never forget our history and culture.
Earlier today I was wondering if Taliep was alive what would the messages of songs have been today and this was further highlighted when David Kramer correctly pointed out that it is time that statues of Jan Smuts be replaced with a man playing the Ghooma …
The moment this was said I could just but imagine the music that would have been created by David and Taliep if he had to be with us today music filled with deep meanings…unique .. and speaking to the challenges of old and the ones we face today…
Once again Mubarak and congratulations to these icons on well deserved awards your contributions to our people and beautiful City lives on
Shukr Alghamdulilaah”
